YouTube’s Big Changes, Explained

Welcome to Created, the newsletter that’s more vital than good lighting for your next selfie. Here’s what we got for you:

YouTube Announces Auto-Dubbing, Hype, and More

Last week, I attended Made On YouTube, their annual event where they announce the latest updates to the platform.

Here are four that really stood out:

1) Communities

Watch out, Discord and Reddit. YouTube is coming for you too. Think of Communities as your channel’s social hub where both creators and subscribers can post.

Subscribers can share anything directly on a channel’s Community page. Previously, only the creator could post on their Community Tab.

2) Auto Dubbing

YouTube is making it easier to reach global audiences with Auto Dubbing.

Creators can automatically add dubbed audio tracks to their videos, making it accessible to more people without you needing to hire dubbing services.

3) Hype

Hype is a new feature that lets viewers give extra promotion to smaller channels (under 500K subscribers).

After liking a video, you can hit Hype for an extra boost, helping smaller creators gain visibility and find new audiences.

It’ll be interesting to see how big creators use Hype to support other channels — or even use it to launch second channels.

4) Seasons & Episodes

With more viewers watching YouTube on TVs, creators will soon be able to organize their content into seasons and episodes, giving it more of a traditional TV vibe.

Plus, YouTube is adding auto-play videos on channel pages for a more immersive experience.

It’s a push to make YouTube content shine on TV, and it’s perfect for creators making long-form series or episodic content.

Other Notable Updates:

22-Year-Old YouTuber Sold 350,000 Movie Tickets in 24 Hours

French YouTuber Inoxtag sold 350,000 movie tickets in 24 hours for his new documentary about climbing Mount Everest.

Backstory:

The other week, he released his documentary, Kaizen, which follows his journey to climb Everest.

By The Numbers:

The film sold 350,000 tickets in a day — numbers that put him in the league with major blockbusters.

But he didn’t just aim for box office numbers. He made sure his documentary would be available to everyone.

After turning down offers from paid platforms, Inoxtag insisted Kaizen would be free on YouTube.

It worked. With 30M views in 10 days, he made more headlines and built his brand in a way that charging for the movie may not have done.

Quote: “There are no big or small dreams, the important thing is simply to try to become better than yesterday. And the greatest adventures are always lived in groups, nothing is done alone,” said Inoxtag on his Instagram.
